With some rain finally forecast, I suggested to Brian that we get some plants put in the ground that we had been given in the summer.
Some friends, who have a holiday home in the village, remodelled their garden in the summer whilst they were here, pulling up some tired looking shrubs and replacing them with fresher plants. Not one to miss an opportunity, I had eagerly spotted the shrubs they were discarding, and asked if I could I have them.
During the dry days, which turned into weeks, and then months, I had kept the shrubs half in the shade, in an old galvanised bath full of water—I changed it periodically so that mosquitoes didn’t breed in it.
I was very happy that all four of them showed signs of new growth. The big one flourished, so I’m really hopeful it will settle in and enjoy its new home. I’m pretty confident for all of them actually, now that they are planted and getting a good watering in by the rain.
I’m enjoying having such a big garden, it’s wonderful being able to re-home plants and hopefully give them a new lease of life.
