École de Nancy

We’ve visited the école de Nancy before, but it’s such a gorgeous museum, and I would never have remembered everything we’d seen previously.

We made the short 10 minute walk from the Villa to the museum in the shade of the surrounding buildings.

The rather simple looking building belies its contents, and right from the entrance you know you’re in for a treat.

It’s filled with glorious, luxurious furniture, fittings, tableware, and ornaments, all from the early 1900’s.

I love the looseness of the paintings and the curves of the carpentry.

This salle à manger oozes opulence, but has a grounding from the flowing style of the room. I think the heavy use of wood, and the way each piece of furniture seems to grow from each other, helps create this steady, natural form.

The use of nature, that can be seen throughout the museum, is most evident in the stained glass and glassware. The colours are vivid, and the designs truly bring the outside in.

So much to absorb. It was good to take a quiet moment to reflect on what we’d seen
